Xiaomi has officially announced MIUI 6 – the latest version of their Android-powered smartphone UI at an event in Beijing on the fourth anniversary of MIUI ROM. The overall look of the MIUI OS is flattened, and color plays a big role, features a major design refresh, better security, and more. Currently, the update is in beta stage and its expected to make its way to Xiaomi’s devices soon.
Xaiomi, as promised at the MI4 smartphone launch, introduced the next major version of its MIUI user interface, MIUI 6, as said, it’s purely-based on Android Xiaomi devices, comes with major design revamp and also brings a slew of new and best features. Notably, the Xiaomi Mi4 runs MIUI 6 out-of-the-box.
The MIUI 6 brings a completely new look to its ROM user-interface, that’s simple and is also colorful, which got a new notification center with toggles for music control panel, alerts for new messages, missed calls, reminders, app notices, and et al.
Notably, the new update to the MIUI 6 has smart blocklist and visual menu for voice service calls. Although, the company “China Apple’, defined the new Android skin as “the best MIUI ever.” It appears that the new MIUI version poses a lot of design inspired from Apple’s iOS 7, and the newly announced iOS 8 smartphone and tablet OS.
Everything in the new design is meant to be clear, got a heavier use of color in MIUI 6, with white prominent in many of Xiaomi’s own apps. Phone and contact apps have also been updated, so that you can now identify known numbers when they call up. Also, you can identify service number either, like Banks.
The home screen has been designed with operational gestures that can activated anywhere, and can now be organize icons in groups. Tools like calendar and Mail have an overhauld design as well. The MIUI 6 will be tested by 1000 beta testers, and it be tested by 10000 by August 22.
MIUI 6 supports moving apps by holding on the app and switch screens. It has the most convenient icons organizing method, supports batch organize and delete icons.
MIUI 6 also brings a revamped camera app that will allow swipe down to switch between front and back camera, swipe left to launch menu panel, and swipe right to launch filters. The company has also re-worked the lockscreen notifications on MIUI 6, which will now appear as folded by default.
In addition, the MIUI 6 include new Linux kernel and RAM optimization techniques; new power-saving features to adjust the standby time of the device; 10GB free Mi Cloud storage space for storing images, contacts, messages, call logs and more, and the redesigned Mail app.
Final version of the MIUI 6 for public availability is stated in early September and will be rolled out to as ‘final upgrade’ to select Xiaomi handsets by October.
