WinterBoard For iOS Gets Updated, Brings Performance Improvements, Bug Fixes and More
Winterboard is one of my wanted Cydia tweak to customize my device with modified colors, shapes and themes of my iPhone 4/4S, iPad 2 and iPod touch. This jailbreak application allows me to do so, and giving us the ability to easily customize your idevices has now been updated by getting major speed along with some bug fixes and improved in performance for every compatible version of iOS.
WinterBoard was created by Jay Freeman, better known as Cydia mastermind Saurik. Simply by installing you can easily implement various ready-made themes for your device home screen, lock screen, Notification Center etc – all of which rely on WinterBoard in order to work on.
I have already shared some great looking iPad 2 themes and iPhone themes compatible to the latest versions of iOS 5.0/5.0.1 and the 5.1 firmware, all for free. Top of the best iOS themes which were choosen by me “Grabi”.
The improvements for WinterBoard have been trickling in through the last couple of days, and as far as iOS 5 is concerned, the most significant improvement is the “SpringBoard Scroll Lag” is no more, providing SummerBoard Mode is deactivated.
For those running iOS 4 and iOS 5, there have been some issues with the respring button. In order for a selected theme to come into effect, a respring must take place, but it hasn’t been functioning as it should. As per the changelog, users should be able to respring within the WinterBoard app without so much as a hiccup. The screenshot below captured from my iPhone 4 installed with Theme and enabled with WinterBoard tweak.
The complete changelog for v0.9.3905 reads as follows:
- 5.x: Solve SpringBoard Scroll Lag (only with “SummerBoard Mode” off)
- Default SummerBoard Mode to Off
- 4+5: TimeStyle, PerPage, IconAlpha
- 4+5: WinterBoard.app Respring Fix
- 5.x: Last Ditch kill -KILL Respring
- 4+5: HTML Wallpaper Multi-Touch
- 2+3: Fixed SpringBoard Crashes
- Corrected Order of UISound StackUse Fallback/* to Wildcard Theme
WinterBoard is available on the BigBoss repository, and as always is always free of charge. It works for all devices running iOS. Sprintomize is another Cydia app allowing a similar functionality of customization, apart WinterBoard in many aspects, check it from here to get downloaded and for detailed information.
