Grab the Beta 1 version of Ubuntu 11.10 Linux (Oneiric Ocelot) from this Link, if you want are looking for something more Stable than the recent Alpha 3 build to test on your Computer or Virtual Machine.

Like all the Ubuntu Updates, this Version 11.10 has not improved a lot, but improves on the big changes made in 11.04, just by cleaning up the Dash, Overheating the Ubuntu Software Center, and brought some new Default Software.

What are new in Ubuntu Linux 11.10 Beta 1 “Oneiric Ocelot”:

Revamped Dash – This has been changed to a Complete new Look in Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1. the Dash only has one button, at the top of your dock, that opens the entire Dash—no more separate launchers for Unity Places. Instead, searching files and applications are “tabs” within the Dash itself, called “lenses”, and they’ve added a new music lens so you can quickly start up your tunes from the Dash.

Where the Dash has its own Window Controls, so that you can easily maximize or Restore it if you are willing. the Dash button has been moved from the top panel to the Unity launcher.

Ubuntu Software Center Gets an Overhaul – Has finally been ported to GTK 3, and gets a Revamped interface in the Process, and well as a New icon. The new Software Center looks fantastic, and is much faster than it was before.

Ubuntu 11.10 Software Center

This Software Center looks awesome and it is easy to Browse and Install Applications, but there are still rough edges, and great Update version. Synaptic is no longer included with Ubuntu by default. you can easily install it from the Software Center first thing and move on with your life.

Important Note – When you Boot up and Search for Synaptic only, you may not find anything.

Hidden window controls for maximized windows – Window Controls Hidden By Default. When you maximize a Window, the Window Controls disappear along with the File, Edit and other Applications Menus, but showing the name of that Application in the Menu Bar.

A Shiny New Alt+Tab Switcher – Alt-Tab switcher with minimized window previews. This is one of the changes I for one like the most in the latest Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1: the ALT-TAB switcher can now display previews, even for minimized windows

New Login Screen – Earlier GDM was the Default Login Screen for Ubuntu, but now it is the the Default and called “LightDM”.

Thunderbird and Other New Default Programs – Ubuntu’s included Thunderbird as the default mail client, and it integrates very nicely with the Ubuntu desktop. You can access it right from the messaging menu, get desktop notifications, and even compose new messages by right-clicking on its dock icon.

Where Deja Dup is also now the default backup tool, which should integrate with the GNOME Control Center and Ubuntu One.
