With this amazing news surfaced for the 4S and 2nd-gen iPad users who may have accidentally upgraded their jailbroken iOS devices to iOS 5.1 firmware, now can be downgraded soon as well.

Normally, updating to the latest version of iOS isn’t really a big issue for standard users. But, here’s where the problem really occurs when iDevice owners wh wish to perform a jailbreak update their software, leaving them having to sit and wait patiently until the Dev-Teams produce a working, distributable jailbreak for that new iOS version. Users can benefit on older devices, by performing a firmware downgrades to versions of iOS that Apple no longer signs as long as they have saved relevant SHSH Blobs for that firmware. In several cases, Cydia automatically captures any available blobs and update the users’ Cydia app with the blobs that have been saved. Many jailbreak fans uses the TinyUmrella tool to quickly and effectively capture available SHSH blobs and save them locally on their machines for use at a later date.

I am an old iPhone 4 user, and i was new to perform downgrade iOS firmware to older ones, with the help of iFaith i had successfully done downgrading iOS 5.1 to 5.0.1. When comes downgrading iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, it was a bit impossible till now. Canadian based iOS developer and hacker iH8sn0w claims to have found a loophole in Apple’s APTicket system that allowed him to successfully downgrade his iPad 2 from iOS 5.1 to 5.0.1.

We are seeing the iPad 2 since March 2011, and the iPhone 4S since October, there hasn’t been a method available to allow users to downgrade these A5 powered devices which means that a restore is required for any reason that the latest firmware version would be installed. the legendary hacker also believe that the loophole he has found will also allow firmware downgrades on Apple’s new iPad running on the new A5X processor. But, this will only be possible when newer firmwares become available due to the fact that all new iPads were actually shipped with iOS 5.1, which is the current version.

Found a loophole in Apple’s apticket system. Restored my iPad 2 to 5.0.1 from 5.1. Works on all A5 devices.

A5X devices will work too once Apple pushes a new firmware for it.

BTW, This cannot be applied to basebands. Only iOS itself.

So, it is currently possible to downgrade iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 using the SHSH blobs saved using TinyUmbrella or TinyCFW.

With this latest iteration, means that the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, which are powered by A5 chip and in the future the new iPad, which is powered by Apple’s A5X chip can be downgraded to the previous firmware versions as well. So, users will be able to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and enjoy the untethered jailbreak until the jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is released (Update on iOS 5.1 jailbreak available here).

The news basically means that owners of the iPad 2, the new iPad and the iPhone 4S have finally been invited to the downgrade party and will be able to restore their devices to any firmware of their choice, providing that they have the relevant SHSH blobs saved.

Apple released iOS 5.1 to the public after its announcement followed by the New iPad at last Wednesday’s keynote speech, and within no time it was jailbroken – well, at least for the older devices. The iPad 2 and iPhone 4S have once again remained out in wait room, meaning those devices either had to stick with outdated software, or simply update and sacrifice the jailbreak – for the time being. Apart this.

Couple of days ago we informed you about the pod2g started working on iOS 5.1 jailbreak and he was also been asked users to send him crash reports to ease finding vulnerabilities. Pod2g also teased i0n1c by saying “a little bird told me you’ll have a surprise soon.” so he probably knew!

Stefan Esser, known more commonly in the jailbreak scene as i0n1c, has teased a couple of pictures on his Twitter page which show a Wi-Fi iPad 2 running Cydia 1.1.5 on iOS 5.1. Now unlike the the first iteration of iOS 5, though, the break may not be too far away.

i0n1c who has published some photographs on this Twitter account shows an iPad 2 on iOS 5.1 running Cydia, but there’s no word on whether the break is tethered or untethered. For those uninitiated, a tethered jailbreak requires the device to be connected to a PC or Mac whenever the device is rebooted or turned off.

However the current A4 jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is tethered, this one for A5 devices would likely going be untethered. Well he also points the possibility for iPad 3 jailbreak, and since he doesn’t have owned the device yet, and future it will be done. Once the New iPad hits shelves, i0n1c will try his exploit and most probably it will work.

Already the iPad 2 on iOS 5.1 jailbroken, means the same for iPhone 4S users which also means jailbreaking A5 soon. Regards to soon push the untethered jailbreak for 5.1.

The Apple’s Reuse and Recycling program allows Apple product owners to exchange the item in return for gist cards that can be used to purchase Apple newer goods. The program covers iPhones, the original iPad and Macs but with the latest update, the program now has immediate coverage for all iPad 2 models. The program works in exactly the same way as other recycling and trade-in programs, which is to take details about the model and condition of the product and then produce a value based on that information.

The Next Web are reporting that the top of the range iPad 2 model, in fully functional and working order could net owners up to a maximum of $320 which appears to fall in line with other services of the same nature. They have also included some recycling pricing points for the other various iPad 2 models:

The service is also being extended by Apple to be available in additional countries and I can confirm that the United Kingdom version has been updated and is functional. Although, the price offered by Apple for a top of the range model iPad 2 in England is not likely to make people want to part with their device.

The news comes in a reply of a user who asked pod2g about the release date of a jailbreak for what Apple announced “the New iPad”.

A tipped note, pod2g mentioned the well-known iPhone hacker i0n1c in a tweet telling him that “a little bird told me you’ll have a surprise soon.”

Which kind of surprise? Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1, or we going to see Greenpois0n absinthe jailbreak tool update for iOS 5.1 soon? Anything else? Simply wait for the surprise!
