Thinking you are a big fan of Facebook and using an old phone which doesn’t have a browser, and only can be used to make calls? Even that device has no internet or WAP services enabled such as (EDGE/GPRS/3G) connectivity is not available? Now how can you access Facebook on this mobile without internet? That’s what we are talking about right now. Details after the jump!

Don’t worry. You can still use your Facebook account in India by simply dialing *325# (called *fbk#) from your mobile phone – this service will not require any data plan or Internet and this tip works on phones of the 10 years older. Check this out right now:

Using Facebook without any Data Plan (EDGE, GPRS, or 3G)

As Facebook has recently announced that mobile users in India can access their Facebook accounts, even if they don’t have activated any WAP services on their phones. Facebook India has partnered with Fonetwish to bring Facebook on every mobile phone without requiring any apps or even the Internet.

After dailing the *325# number, you will recieve a message that “we will be back”, then enter your Facebook username and password, that’s it you’re in. You can also send number based commands to access various features of Facebook, Chat with friends, family who are online, add new people to your friends list, and many more.

The main point in order to use Facebook to read feed stories, and to quickly update Facebook status or for chatting with your friends who are online, costs you not more than a subscription fee of 1.00 per day for unlimited usage.

Note: The only problem with using Fonetwish is that it has a limit of 140 characters. This service is now available in India via Airtel, Idea, Aircel, Tata Docomo and well known networks as well.

Today on Thursday, Facebook has began rolling out a new feature aimed at ramping up the social experience of listening to music online. Are you one of the active 800 million individuals across the globe with Facebook account, then you will be alreday noticed that some evolutionary changes which are happening to the Social Networking site. Few days ago, the major changes is done for the new Timeline feature which offers a radical new way of viewing the history of a desired friend, which met with mixed revews from members.

The feature implemented into the Facebook is called to be “Listen With Friends” – allowing users to listen music with family all in real time. That means you can also listen to that artist songs along with any friend who is already playing it.

How that happens?

“You can listen to the same song, at the exact same time—so when your favorite vocal part comes in you can experience it together, just like when you’re jamming out at a performance or dance club,” Alexandre Roche, product designer at Facebook, wrote in a blog post Thursday.

So, when any Facebook friend is listening to a song, or a music note will appear next to their name in the chat sidebar and the real-time news ticker. By simply hovering over that friends name, then clicking the “Listem Music” button, you can listen as well with them in the same time.

The latest advancement within Facebook appears to have taken that to the next level, by letting you engage in a chat conversation with friends whilst listening to the same music at the same time. This has been dubbed the ‘Listen With’ feature, about which the company had this to say:

“Look for the music note in the chat sidebar to see which of your friends are listening to music. To listen with a friend, hover over their name, and click the Listen With button. The music will play through the service your friend is using.

When a new song plays, you’ll come along for the ride, discovering new music while your friend DJs for you.”

The Facebook’s feature will definitely add a whole new dimention to using Facebook, by effectively letting friends control their musical joy whilst chatting. Currently, Spotify and Rdio are the only two music players that support Listen With Friends. If a Facebook user attempts to listen in with a friend but does not have the compatible player, they will be prompted to install it.

So this feature is a part of Facebook chat, allows users to chat online while listening music “Listen With Friends” them upto 50 users.

Here is the scheme that took the Facebook chat (a built-in function) into the top place of anyone’s instant chat application list. Accepted, that it was a late comer to the instant chatting party which was always going behind the likes of Windows Live Messenger and AIM though the number of active Facebook users recently breaching eight hindred million, one would agree that the chat feature would be highly thought of.

Well it seems the developers at Facebook have included an Easter egg within the built in chat app allowing users to have more fun and engaging chat sessions. Facebook’s chat ever been your favorite form of instant messaging? But many others preffer Gchat, Skype and AIM as their default preffered chat. If you haven’t already experienced it, part of me wants to withhold the information so you all run off to Facebook, hopelessly bothering all of your friends trying out new chat styles in the hope that you discover the new features.

Honestly, now a new gimmick is making us like Facebook’s built-in chat feature a whole lot more. You can make the profile pictures of Facebook users and pages show up inside your chat windows itself. One feature of the new Facebook chat allows users to include the profile pictures of fellow users within the chat session. To get a feel of what I am talking about, just check out as demonstrated in the picture below.

Here’s how you can try the new Facebook Gimmick chat function:

Step 1: First of all log in to Facebook, open the chat application and select someone to start chatting.

Step 2: If you want to add a mutual friend in that chat session, you simply need to dump their profile ID into aset of brackets. For those users who have yet to claim their choice URL you simply included a name of string of numbers within the brackets.

Step 3: To include a picture of coca-cola then, simply type [[coca-cola]] for a picture of Coke. [[zuck]] for Mark Zuckerberg to discuss with Facebook founder – its so simple, isn’t it?

Now you can amaze every friend on Facebook chat with this cool new gimmick function. Inserting your friend’s faces bring the end of the emoticon era to be slowly sent to the chat grave yard? Or chat with your smiley face! via

The war between the Facebook and Google is an interesting aspect, which has always been on the cards, while Facebook’s Android app now has more active daily users than the same native app on iOS. The news that made more interesting when the first Android version of the Facebook app was only made available in past September 2009 – more than 12 months after its iPhone-based twin was made available.

With the help of statistics which came from AppData tracking service released date shows that the Android Facebook app had 58.3 million daily active users at the last count, compared to the iOS app which said to have only 54.7 million users.

Well! still the Facebook’s monthly numbers skew towards iOS, which worth nothing that the daily yage of numbers show that more Android owners are hitting the Facebook app on daily basis, means the Android Facebook app is more “picked”, or in other words, Android owners are huge Facebook users than the iOS users.

When comparision comes, both Android and iOS Facebook users, it’s very slight difference, where there are less iPhone, iPad buyers than the Android-based devices. Think about the quantity of iOS owners. Android running devices are thousands, and where the iOS products are limited. Apart from this, now stas say that Android’s Facebook users are a bit higher than the Facebook iOS users, that shown in the screenshot below.

It is a safe bet that now the Android app has overtaken the iPhone one, the gap will continue to grow. Android’s activation numbers are currently at a huge rate, with over half a million devices being activated a day. As told above, with the Facebook app finding its way onto so many devices it will be hard to see how iOS can compete or break it. That said, iOS counts will obviously include the iPod touch and iPad, two markets – tablets and personal media devices – that Google’s Android has yet struggled to really get a foothold in. According to Redmondpie!

After Apple introduced the latest iPhone 4S, that was the time the Android mobile platform over take the iOS. The fact that Android is now proving to be the primary mobile platform for Facebook users could see the Soicial media network begin to offer the platform more development time. Recently Facebook update to bring their new Timeline to iOS shows that such a situation (is FB ignoring) situation has not arise just yet. If Facebook For Android Now Has More Active Users Than the Facebook For iPhone users and what’s your opinion.

Timeline has been lauded as the most important and coveted change of all, allowing Facebookers to record and edit their life stories using text, tags, and the numerous forms of rich content, emphasizing Facebook as a site for past and present as opposed to simply covering the here and now. The core feature in Mobile timeline is the true cover photo that uniquely identifies your personality. Photo albums are being pretty much organizrd and available in a horizontal swipable way, that can be easily browse multiple photos and post in-line without leaving your timeline. Other than that the FBT’s important feature includes viewing of maps, subscribers and more.

Why the facebook took so long to launch Timeline ?

Partially due to a lawsuit initiated by Timelines Inc., which claimed the social hunt had stolen a copyrighted name without due permission.

With the court case cleared up, though, Timeline has successfully begun to launch worldwide, beginning in New Zealand and gradually spilling across the globe.

If you are an Google’s Android-based mobile or Smartphone, now will be able to enjoy the updated version of Facebook (1.8.1) which includes Timeline integration, so changes can be made and Timelines can be viewed on the Go (fly).

Android users can now download the Facebook’s timeline version straight from the Android Market as a native app. Those who are not running on Google’s mobile os should head over to m.facebook.com for a preview of things to come.

Like iOS users can only browser the mobile timeline using the web app right now. How can you get, hit the Safari icon and navigate to above said link and start using the new Timeline on your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch. We’ll be updating most important features and when the Facebook will update its native iOS application with timeline feature.

Here’s the catch! Facebook is currently testing a new feature on their social network site, will bring the private messaging to its pages when launched.

The news comes straight from the WeAreSocial.sg – A communications agency, spotted, Facebook testing private messaging for Facebook Pages. But Facebook has now confirmed to the Read Write Web site that it is indeed true.

The new private messaging service would enable the Facebook users to be able to communicate with page owners privately, rather than directly on the wall. It’s very similar to what Twitter offers for their users.

This “Private Messages for Pages” feature would be a welcomed advantage for Facebook Pages who aren’t particularly inclined to interact with customer service matters directly on their public Walls. Anyhow, sending a private message that would come from a person’s Facebook friends noticing the posting. We can see that Page owners can choose whether or not to accept private messages, that can be utilized by people by messaging feature when they liked the page.

The Communication site who claims that this new private messaging feature will be currently only available in Asia, which might suggest that, like Facebook Timeline.

No detailed information has been released yet about the new Facebook private messaging feature will be arriving or rolling out to the masses. Stay tuned, we will let you know if and if any news surfaces on the Web for you all the time. via

Finally the time has come since Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook its most recent service of the social network, bringing is a host of a new features to avoid any potential threat from Google+ (plus).

Its been 2.5 months, some of us have been playing with it for months,as is nearly always the case with new features, rather than being spontaneously available to all, they’re gradually trickled out over these months since the f8 keynote, and with all the bugs ironed out and the testing completed, Timeline is now officially begining to launch worldwide.

Timeline was been in beta stage for quite a while, and was initially drawn in for an October release. Security and privacy concerns though – such as the visibility of who unfriended who – meant that Facebook had take a step back and ensure its coveted new feature was flawless pre-launch. In addition, a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by Timelines Inc. gave Facebook an added headache, delaying the launch even further.

Today its just gone live in Zew Zealand, is the only nation to have Timeline, with other countries set to be added in the “near future” according to an official blog post.

if you’ve been looking forward to Facebook’s awesome new timeline interface, good news is here, which will providing a rather nostalgic overview of one’s life since signing up to the world’s second-most visited site (and beyond), it allows social souls to tell their life story with music, pictures, and various other forms of rich content. It adds a little depth to what is often seen as a very present-time form of communication, which sees significant events popularized, discussed, and forgotten in a heartbeat.

What is Timeline? and what are the benefits of FB’s Timeline, its a new approach to organizing your wall in which you can easily drill down to see what you were doing on Facebook by month or by year, and you can add custom timeline makers to note important times of your life. There are special sections to highlight the music you’ve been listening to, or the news articles you’ve recently read. In short, Timeline is about the only new Facebook feature in ages that almost everyone actually likes. Since since Facebook developers (which I pretend to be) got early access. Timeline’s really good. It’s worth logging into Facebook later today to check it out, if you haven’t already seen it.

The consensus seems to be that Timeline certainly gives Facebook a more well-rounded position – appealing to more individuals in an attempt to avoid the plight of social hunts preceding it. Thinking of Google plus still sticked along with that beta tag on its collar, only time will tell whether it does indeed poses a threat to Facebook. What do you think about it? via(Facebook)

The report comes straight from the CNN Money “a source close to Gowalla”, that Facebook purchased the Austin-based Gowalla’s location-based social networking site for an undisclosed sum. The majority of Gowalla’s employees, including founder Josh Williams, are set to move from the company’s Austin, Texas, headquarters to Facebook’s in Palo Alto, Calif., to work on Facebook’s Timeline feature, which launched at this year’s F8 conference and is gradually rolling out to Facebook’s 800 million members. according to the report.

Facebook declined to comment on the deal.

“We don’t comment on rumor and speculation,” a company spokesman said.

The Gowalla was launched in the year 2009 and went head-to-head with the direct rival Foursquare – and lost badly trailing Foursqaure network is user adoption, Gowalla recently shifted directions, re-designed itself as a travel guide. The site now raised around $10 million over the years from backers including the Founders fund, Greylock Partners and a collection of angel investors.

from the source:

“It’s a perfect match,” says the unnamed source quoted by CNN Money. “As far as the big picture, Gowalla’s vision is about people telling stories, and Facebook’s vision for Timeline is about stories about important moments in life.”

Some Gowalla employees will stay in Austin and work out of Facebook’s local office there. A rep from Gowalla declined comment on the report, citing a policy against reacting to “rumors and speculation.” Reps from Facebook could not be reached.

Meanwhile, Gowalla’s chief rival, Foursquare, released a statement about the apparent move: “Congrats to Josh and the team in Austin. Here at Foursquare, we continue to focus on building an amazing product and growing our 15,000,000-strong community.”

Lets wait and see what happens in the end, whether facebook buying the Gowalla social network, and if yest when will the Social media gaint announce publicly. via

Facebook has now officially announced that the maximum characters count in status updates has been increased to over 60000 characters. Facebook Status Updates currently limited to 5,000 characters and if it isn’t sufficient for your updating needs you’re in luck.

With massive 63,206 characters, Facebook has now gives you a chance by increasing the limit allowing you to include lots more content.

Once when you try to post an update that goes beyond 63,206 characters, Facebook will then tells’ you to create a Note instead. And if you wondering why the limit was set to 63,206 characters, here’s an explanation from Facebook’s Bob Baldwin: “I set the exact limit to something nerdy. Facebook … Face Boo K … hex(FACE) – K … 64206 – 1000 = 63206″

The new longer Facebook status updates will still apperas in the Live Ticker but will be decreased at around 80 characters. Anyhow within the News Feed the expansion will happen at around 400 characters. via

Have you downloaded Facebook’s Chat instant Messenger for your Windows 7 Desktop? not yet, don’t worry, Facebook is currently preparing a desktop app for its Messenger offering, with a limited allocation of users already testing the integrated IM client.

A simple chat application, it will also allow users to check the Ticker Feed and of cource, those all-important Notifications as well.

Facebook currently allowing a limited test group of users to download the new Facebook Messenger for Windows 7 desktop client. Facebook is looking to measure interest in desktop access to these real-time features that could keep users engaged with the service all the day without having to keep a browser window open. This client could become more popular, considering that the Facebook-integrated Windows Live Messenger desktop client that lets you Chat with your friends as well as the third-party instant messaging contacts is the top app on the Facebook Platform with an 18.2 million daily active users.

There were news reports on the HTC-created Facebook phone codenamed Buffy was in motion, but the particular move isn’t expected until the 2013 at the very earliest. It’s no secret that Facebook is pushing to get more users onto its Chat service. This summer, it released its standalone Messenger app for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry as new distribution points for Chat. Through Messenger, Facebook is challenging instant messaging, SMS and to some extent, email. Anyhow, none of the other Messenger clients include the Ticker, which displays links back to Facebook.com.

According to Techcrunch:

By paring Facebook down to just its real-time elements, users may leave Messenger for Windows on throughout the day. This would expose them to desktop notifications about Facebook activity that could increase engagement with the site better than leaving a browser window open. If the Windows 7 version gains traction, clients for Mac and other operating systems could be on the way.

Swiping through the years of your life is effortless, and Flynn even showed me a slick new feature that lets you take pictures “in line” inside your Timeline. In this way, you can see exactly how the pictures will look once they’re posted.

While Joe Flynn, lead desogner for Facebook’s mobile Timeline interface, told Hamburger that Timeline is launching “soon”, but not until it’s completely finished. via

Facebook is bit slow in updating their native apps for different Smartphones platform. The Android app was left olone and Ignored for quite a while, before it was finally brought in line with their iOS App (which is Recommended the Best out of all of them) and their iPad app, which was already ready since May, was released earlier this month. Facebook today updated version, released the Windows Phone app which was due. It brings support for Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, which was released just a few weeks back.

The Updated app – which is numbered v2.2 – brings Support for Windows Phone Mango 7.5 along with all the Demanaded features such as Notifications Support and the ability to pin tiles to the Start Screen, as well. Ability to pin elements such as Messages, Events, the News Feed, and Photos directly onto your homescreen, quick access along with support for toast+tile notifications.

Microsoft has released version 2.2 of its Facebook app for Windows Phone. The biggest addition is support for Windows Phone 7.5 (codenamed Mango). Most of the apps that come with Windows Phone were updated with Mango Support, But Facebook app didn’t, until now.

From Windows Phone Marketplace:

“Facebook for Windows Phone makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends. You can post status updates, check your news feed, review your upcoming events, manage your inbox, upload photos, publish notes, accept friend requests, and look at your friends’ photos, walls and info ”

Microsoft has released Facebook for Windows Phone version 2.2, adding support for Mango. You can grab it now from the Windows Phone Marketplace. Hopefully Facebook will continue working on this still feature-incomplete app to bring it in line with the Facebook for iOS/Android app in the coming future. If you are an User of Facebook with 800 Million People, and having a Smartphone based on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, then you must Download this app from the Embedded link below.

Talking about the Privacy on Facebook, people (users) take very, very seriously, and for good reason. You don’t want people seeing things that you thought were private, or if a larger group of people seeing anything about, that you though was only visible to select few.

Facebook is countering reports about scams affecting its users, and rising users perception of insecurity. With this new Security Tweaks and the release od statistics suggesting that most of its 800 million active users experience few problems.

One of the risks that people tend to forget about when bringing their privacy pitchforks to a lovely sheen, is the role of the humble password. As with all things of this nature, Facebook identifies us all thanks to a unique combination of Username (your Email Address) and Password which, probably, isn’t easily guessed.

That first thing, According to Facebook itself, 600,000 account logins are compromised each and every day, with 1 billion account logins carried out during any 24-hour period.

Facebook says that “only 0.06 percent of 1 billion logins per day are compromised.” The site is able to precisely count the number of stolen or otherwise compromised logins because it challenges the would-be hackers with additional authentication questions.

The first feature the social network is announcing today is app passwords, which provides a separate layer of password security for Facebook apps. In part this is meant to improve an existing login security feature called two-factor authentication, which sends a text message to your mobile phone bearing a unique code that must be entered to complete the login.

which basically allows you to use unique passwords with third-party Facebook apps. To use ‘App Passwords’:

Simply go to your Account Settings, then the Security tab, and finally to the App Passwords section. You can generate a password that you won’t need to remember, just enter it along with your email when logging into an application.

The second feature, called “trusted friends,” will make it easier to recover your account if it is shut down or if you lose your password. If you can’t access your e-mail account to retrieve a new password, Facebook will send codes to a preselected group of friends so that they can pass the codes to you.

The main way ‘Trusted Friends’ works is actually quite simple. Facebook users nominate a circle of, you guess it, trusted friends. Facebook then sends a code to those friends should you claim your account has been compromised.

Facebook is rather happy with Themselves becuase only a tiny number of those 600,000 Logins actually result in compromised Facebook Accounts, although the situation still arise in the future.

While the Numbers come from Facebook’s own Blog, where the Social Network is touting it’s new ‘App Passwords” and “Trusted Friends” Password restoring System. The idea is simple – if by any chance your Facebook account does get hijacked or Hacked, the real owner will have the best way of Retrieving it. Previously, getting a stolen Facebook account back to its rightful owner could be an exercise in futility.

Facebook must be commended for at least looking into the problem of compromised accounts, and any way to right the wrongs that go with it is gratefully received. via
