BlackBerry is one of the highly anticipated smartphone in the world before the Android and iPhone age. But RIM’s market share has gone down in these two years and when you see the market share in the UK, the Research In Motion claims its BalckBerry handsets were the best selling in the United Kingdom since two years. Apart from this, reports surfaced on the internet about the BBM app could be coming to the iPhone and the Android handsets. Details after the jump!
Which means that almost all of the killer applications that were running on BlackBerry only are now also available on both the iPhone and Android devices.
What do you mean by killar app on BlackBerry? That BlackBerry Messenger which was the most popular app in the past for BlackBerry. RIM specially built that app and was exclusively available for BlackBerry devices for a long time. Since then there was not even a single app that was compared to this BBM app. Samsung few months ago released ChatON a group messaging app for all the Android, iOS and other Windows Phone platforms.
Apple along with the iOS 5 firmware released the iMessage for all the iOS devices. If you are interested in setting up the iMessage on your iPhone, iPad or iPod, then follow this guides posted here and here how to use iMessage.
RIMs executives are now seriously porting BBM onto both iOS and Android mobile platforms in a desperate bid to try the user base of BlackBerry Messenger app. RIM CEO Thorsten Heins gave an interview to CrackBerry, stated regarding porting BBM to iPhone and Android and:
We’re constantly exploring our room to maneuver and our room to explore other businesses so I wouldn’t say categorically no to it,” Heins explained. “There is a time where this might make sense, and I have a team looking into this… I’m open for licensing if it makes sense.”
Currently, BBM is free and built in to all BlackBerry phones and allows users to send instant messages to each other. It’s much faster than texting, and you can tell if the recipient has read your message or not. BBM on iPhone and Android will mean that almost anyone with a smartphone will be able to communicate over RIM’s network. That’s a huge opportunity for RIM.
