PlanetBeing Slightly Solved Sandbox Issue On A5 Untethered Jailbreak

Few days ago we published a post that Saurik makes major contribution towards pod2g’s jailbreaking exploit and that which you are involved for quite some time, and you will no doubt be familiar with the PlanetBeing, a legendary hacker. Actually known as Yiduo David Wang, and for some time he rolled a major part of the core community member of iPhone Dev Team alongside the likes of MuscleNerd. Well known member involved in providing baseband hacks and device unlocks, while Wang was more focused on the actual jailbreaks.

But he disappeared from the jailbreak scene in the middle of 2010. If the comments and reports on the Linux on the iPhone blog are to believed, the reasons are personal and work related, although his partners on that project maintain that he was still involved in the project.

After eighteen months to this present time, the PlanetBeing shown himself causing folks to get excited. Pod2g, the developers responsible for producing the recent release of A4 jailbreak, which announced on his personal blog that PlanetBeing was lending a helping hand towards and Saurik and P0sixninja to overcome some sandbox issues they were experiencing.

Pod2g, along with the iPhone and Chronic Dev Teams, has recently produced and released the Corona jailbreak which allows A4 devices running iOS 5.0.1 to benefit from an untethered jailbreak. However, due to the lack of usable exploits to inject the untethering files, the same treatment couldn’t be afforded to the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

The hacker responsible for the untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 for A4 devices, announced a “Dream Team” for the A5 untethered jailbreak on his blog. The team consisted of three of the biggest names in the jailbreak community – “planetbeing”, “MuscleNerd” and “p0sixninja”.

Saurik also joined the team, who is a well known key jailbreak developers who is largely responsible for the creation of Cydia, and the team has received a major contribution from him as well.

Pod2g revealed that Apple sandbox on A5 devices was one of the main hurdles for an untethered exploit for A5 devices. According to another tweet from Pod2g on Tuesday, hackers seem to have resolved that issue.

“@MuscleNerd @saurik And greetings to @planetbeing for the coding + research. Really great stuff to escape from the sandbox,” Pod2g tweeted.”

First of all you must know, what is Sandbox ?

Sandbox is a security mechanism, meant for separating running programs. It is frequently used to execute untested code or untrusted programs from unverified third-parties.

All the iOS applications from the App Store are sandboxed. On the other hand, apps available via Cydia are not limited by the iOS app security sandbox.

Here’s the good news, PlanetBeing is extremely great to his project, after coming out of his 503 day Twitter exile to announce that they are now out of the sandbox. While the recent Tweet represents only a small step forward in the process, with working continuing on a daily basis with all involved to provide that elusive A5 jailbreak.

Great update regarding the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices. Planetbeing tweeted that they had fixed their biggest problem with the help of Saurik.

This will be a great news for everyone. Hopefully the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak will be out soon.
