Official BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) For iPhone And Android Release Date Confirmed

The BlackBerry’s most popular cross-platform messaging space is about to get a bit more accurate with the official launch of infamous BlackBerry Messenger, better known as BBM, becoming available for iPhone and Android. Now, we got the actual date from the official BlackBerry blog. Dedicated BBM apps for iOS and Android making its unique way to their respective app stores starting from September 21st.

In a statement to the press BlackBerry outlined the release date for both platforms as well as some of the features we’ll see once the IM client goes live. BBM for Android will get a date on September 21 and the IM client will come to Apple’s iOS software on September 22nd. How it works and what’s next after the break!

The app, BlackBerry Messenger will be available as a free download, by bringing the BBM service for both the top smartphone platforms in its full glory. On iPhone and Android, the app carry all the features like BBM Chat, which works similar to iMessage on iPhone. Unlike to Apple’s offerings, BBM not only lets you remains instantly connected to your contacts on the go, but also features delivered and read notifications, with the ability to see when your receiver is typing a message. Now, there’s sharing of content is available from one device to another, which includes pictures, voice notes etc.

BBM Groups chat is yet another best feature in BlackBerry Messenger service, touted as “Broadcast Message”, which generally lets you send the same message to every contact to your BBM list. It’s neat, and better than what usually some other alternative apps have to offer. Multi-person chats are a great way to invite contacts and chat together.

The BBM’s Groups lets you invite up to 30 friends to chat together, and step further than multi-chat by sharing photos and schedules. With Broadcast Message, you can send a message out to all your BBM contacts at once.


The BlackBerry Messenger app not only lets you post a personal message, profile picture and your current status, and also lets your contacts know instantly in Updates as well.

The one genuine feature that truly sets BBM apart from the competition is its PIN (personal identification number) system, which allows you to share your unique PIN with other users and content with them, and you don’t have to give out your phone number or email address to a new or casual contact. BBM PIN maintains your privacy when wanting to connect with casual acquaintances, and is really cool to have.


The BBM for Android app will become available September 21 at 7 AM EDT, and the counterpart will follow suit at 12:01 AM on the September 22.
