Microsoft Can Remotely Delete Windows 8 Apps

With the bunch of applications expected to be seen on the Windows store, but Microsoft made it clear that it can pull the kill switch at its discretion in the Windows store terms of use.

In the future, Microsoft will be able to throw a “kill switch” to disable or even remove an app from user Windows 8 devices, which was unveiled in documentation released earlier this week for its upcoming Windows store.

What is Kill Switch? – so called a simple command that can deactivate or delete apps, which are common in mobile app stores similar to both the Apple and Goole who can flip such a switch for apps distributed by the iOS App Store and Android Market as well.

Microsoft for its upcoming Windows Store is readying to go after apps that are deemed offensive and malicious. The company has updated its Windows Store terms of use and also noted that it has the ability to remotely remove apps if need to.

“In cases where your security is at risk, or where we’re required to do so for legal reasons, you may not be able to run apps or access content that you previously acquired or purchased a license for,” said Microsoft in the Windows Store terms.

Wait! read this, Microsoft may refund the urchase price when it removes an offending app from users’ Windows 8-powered hardware, as said.

The company also noted that along with the app, it may also scrub data created by the app from a device.

“If the Windows Store, an app, or any content is changed or discontinued, your data could be deleted or you may not be able to retrieve data you have stored,” Microsoft said.

Here’s some apps removed from the Apple App Store after approving by the company, but then decided to later pulled out – its not other than the tethering app (US$15) that sidetstepped mobile carrier add-on fees for tethering an iPhone to a laptop to provide the latters with Internet access; have continued to work and havn’t been removed from users’ phones or tablets.
