Pod2g, one of the legendary jailbreaker and developer and a Dream team member dropped a good news by releasing the wanted untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 in the past that would bring liberation and freedom to those who were using an iPhone 4S and iPad 2 powered by Apple’s A5 chip. It was for the older version of iOS 5, but this month he has confirmed that he is working on jailbreak 5.1 untethered for the 4S, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch. Apart this!
When iOS 5.1 launched along with the Apple’s new iPad (third-gen) earlier this month, we saw three different jailbreak methods in no time surfaced. Since them there was no news or progress updates about the 5.1 untethered jailbreak currently in past couple of weeks. iPad 3 also know as the new iPad went on sale in more than 10 countries worldwide on March 16th and interestingly it was jailbroken on the very same day.
Is it taking much time to jailbreak new iPad powered with an A5X processor? Or like in case iPhone 4S it took more than 3 months to untether JB it. But A5X and iOS 5.1 turned out to be a piece of Pie not only for one dev team but 3. I mean three developers used three different explots to jailbreak iPad 3 on iOS 5.1, which wasn’t true at all. Here’s the confirmation!
A renowned hacker Pod2g, the ex team member of the Chronic Dev team tweeted about iOS 5.1 jailbreak for A5+ devices.Namely MuscleNerd (of the iPhone Dev Team), i0n1c and chpwn. None of these jailbreak methods have been released publicly however, and from Pod2g’s tweets today it is evident that a public release is rather far away right now. French iOS researcher Pod2g has taken to his Twitter timeline to let his followers and the wider iOS community know that there is currently no ETA for when the untethered jailbreak will arrive for iOS 5.1. Pod2g is putting countless hours into trying to find usable vulnerabilities and is actively working alongside the Chronic Dev Team in pursuit of iOS vulnerabilities that will hopefully yield significant results.
About 5.1 jailbreak for A5+ devices: it’s not out and I have no clue when it’ll happen. I’m working some hours per week on finding vulns.
But right now we (cdev) have some pieces of a userland jailbreak, but we miss some, and even it we had them all, there’s weeks of work to put them all together in a public ready tool.
Pod2g has finally gave us an status update regarding the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. As expected, it looks like its going to be a while before we wee a public release.
Note it : While Chronic Dev Team haven’t yet demoed their exploit of iPad 3 jailbreak but pod2g announced it weeks ago that he is actively working for vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1 to jailbreak “the new iPad”. From The iPhone-Dev team regarding this jailbreak and Stefan Esser aka i0n1c who has the most complete/working untethered jailbreak for the new iPad on iOS 5.1 mentioned on Twitter that he has no plans to make his jailbreak public.
Specially if you want to keep your [untethered] jailbreak. There just simply aren’t enough new features in 5.1 to justify losing all of your favorite tweaks and themes. So stay away from it for now.
