Untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak Will Be Compatible With iOS 5.0.1

A bigger news following up to this untethered jailbreak 5.0.1 and iOS demo, pod2g a well known jailbreaker answered to one of the very important question regarding to the jailbreak’s support for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Here’s those full untether details, check them after the jump!

These answers comes directly from pod2g – eminent iOS hacker and discovered for exploits – in the form of a couple of tweets.

first of all we will once agin repeat what is all about. Earlier post by pod2g warned from updating your iDevices to iOS 5.0.1 as his iOS 5 untethered jailbreak exploit may be patched in iOS 5.0.1, today pod2g, a Chronic Dev Team member confirming that his exploit was successfully able to bring untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 as well.

Here’s iOS 5.0.1/ 5.0 Untethered Jailbreak done Video:

The release date of this awaited iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak untethered iOS 5 ddn’t announced by the pod2g, but he has opened a new blog and announced about the upcoming steps for iOS 5.0.1, 5.0 untethered jailbreak:

Today I succeed in jailbreaking my iPod 3G.

The exploit is user-land, rely on a user ROP payload and a kernel write anywhere exploit.

I can’t give much details right now, but here are the next steps :
– upgrade the iPod 3G to iOS 5.0.1
– do the same on iPhone 4 / iOS 5.0.1
– then iPad 1 & iPod 4G

At every step, the exploit code needs certainly to be reworked, but I really don’t know right now.

Next, I’ll return to the research for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. I don’t know if I gonna release first for other devices or not. I’ve to think about it.

Pod2g’s tweets answer the two most asked questions regarding his untethered jailbreak for iOS 5: #1 Does it work for iOS 5.0.1? #2 Does it work for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S?

The answers to both the questions above is, sadly, at the moment: no, the untethered jailbreak shown in pod2g’s video was on iOS 5, and it doesn’t support the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S currently.

From Twitter:

Tons of questions from my nice followers. Too early to answer. Will work on iOS 5.0.1, will try iPad 2 and 4S after others are ready.

@i0n1c @0xcharlie hello. No it does not rely on it. Next step do the same on iOS 5.0.1. Should be quick.

He will be make it work on iOS 5.0.1 before release. The good news from pod2g has also stated that he doesn’t have an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to actually work on the untethered jailbreak. Anyone can perhaps send one his way that work on the jailbreak can begin soon.

From Twitter:

But… I don’t own a 4S nor I an iPad 2.

Want to know some more about pod2g’s untethered jailbreak. He mentioned that he will work on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S after “others” are ready. This, in all probability, means that the upcoming untethered jailbreak will support devices like the iPod touch 3G/4G, iPhone 3GS/4 and OG iPad on iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 as well (once he has tested on it).
