iOS 5 Untethered jailbreak Confirmed To Be Working on iOS 5.0.1
A few days ago since when the iOS devloper and hacker Pod2g showed off his new untethered jailbreak exploit running on iOS 5. The time he tested it on the third-gen iPod touch running iOS 5.0 and isn’t sure if it would also work on the newer iOS 5.0.1 firmware as well. However he promise to test it on iOS 5.0.1 and report back soon with sucessful results.
Pod2g jailbreak would work to jailbreak the iPhone 4S 5.0.1 and iPad 2 iOS 5.0.x untethered, according to his Twitter timeline report.
Today, after testing the exploit on his iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.0.1 firmware, he has confirmed via his Twitter account that it is indeed working which uniquely means that you are all now free to update your A4-based iOS devices to iOS 5.0.1 ultimately. iPhone hacker unlockers who rely on Ultrasn0w are still advised to not upgrade to preserve the old baseband.
Pod2g: Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update .
All those who accidentally updated to iOS 5.0.1, now receives gift, who only have found themselves being unlocked out on newer firmware, with not having the real way to downgrade back to iOS 5.0.
It’s very important to note that, the exploit has only been confirmed to be working on A4-based devices, and below, like iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iTouch 3G, Apple TV, and the original iPad (first-gen). But not received any confirmation of it being works on A5 based devices like iPhone 4S and iPad 2 currently.
The only way to jailbreak iOS and iOS 5.0.1 on A4-based devices is to use semi-tethered jailbreaks offered by either Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze, or Ac1dsn0w. For a tethered iOS 5 jailbreak using Redsn0w, you would follow our full step by step guide posted here, or here if you want to use Sn0wbreeze on Windows.
