iPhone 4S Owners Who Hopes To Unlock Should Not Update To iOS 5.0.1

As you already saw a new picture of an iPad 2 untethered jailbreak running successfully on iOS 5.0.1. iPhone 4S owners to keep in mind that if they are hoping to eventually unlock their device, then they are advised to stay on iOS 5 but not to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1. Details after the jump!

Many reports surfaced, the iPhone 4S users who are hoping for a future unlock shouldn’t update to the said iOS version of 5.0.1.

MusclNerd has confirmed that an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak for iOS 5.0 will be released at the same time as the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, or a day or two. If you are looking to unlock, it is standard operating system procedure to stay at the lowest possible baseband, which is highly recommended.

It’s very advised that those who already updated their iPhone 4S to 5.0.1 iOS should check the build number and downgrade from build 9A406 to 9A405, where Apple signing both the builds. Due to differences in the basebands, its more likely than an unlock will be found for the earlier build than the later build.

According to iClarified: We can’t guarantee an unlock will be found for iOS 5.0. However, in November MuscleNerd revealed that an unlock was looking ‘very promising‘ and was able to use an exploit to dump the baseband bootrom. However, it’s not clear if or when an unlock based on that exploit will materialize.
