Google+ For iOS Update Replaces Messenger With Hangouts And Adds Google Drive Support

Just after updating its Google+ app version for Android earlier this week, iOS users also got the chance, finally getting the taste of its newer version. Google has updated its Google+ iOS app to version 4.4, adding some revamped features like integration with Google Drive to allow Google+ users to view edit, and share images. For iOS update it also includes the removal of support for Messenger, which has been replaced with the Hangouts app support. Details can be checked right after this break!

With highly anticipated improvements, Google+ for Android app updated on Wednesday, and now Google has brought its iOS counterpart up to date by adding the same features. Newly replaced Hangouts can now be initiated via profile pages, and the older Messenger conversions can be accessed using Google’s Takeout service. Alongside, Google Apps domain support is also bundled into this new iOS update.

One of the best enhancements on the Google+ for iOS would be the user can now access photos and videos stored in Google Drive directly from the Google Plus app. G+ users can also start a Hangout or share a private post with someone from their profile. Talking about profile, now they include Reviews and Video tabs respectively.

As mentioned above, like Android app, Google + for iOS also supports Google Apps for Business features like domain-restricted posts. Finally, the Messenger on Google+ has been replaced with Hangouts for messaging and video calls on iOS.

Google is reportedly planning to use Hangouts as a means of unifying its messaging experience across all Google Products, which was discussed about the strategy on Google+ by Goog;le’s Virgil Dobjanschi earlier this week.

Now that Hangouts provides messaging and video calls across Android, iOS and the web, we’re removing Messenger from the Google+ mobile apps (first on Android, then on iOS),” wrote Dobjanschi. “Later today you’ll be able to download all of your Messenger conversations (including text and photos) from Google Takeout.

iOS G+ update release notes:
