Indian online marketplace Flipkart is all set to unveil its own tablet with its branded label on June 26, 2014. Continuing the speculation earlier surfaced about its own branded smartphone, now it looks like Flipkart – e-commerce website is planning to launch its tablet in India.
The Bangalore-based firm, which sells its own brand of electronics and computer accessories like headphones, speakers and pen drives under the DigiFlip range, is now expected to launch the FlipKart tablet under the same label.
Although, it’s predicted that the company is hosting a blogger event on June 26 and has also sent out a crypto invite in form of a jar or tablets. Specifications of Flipkart’s purported tablet still remain under the wraps though.
This move could help Flipkart, which follows the mix of marketplace and inventory-led model to boost its margins in the highly competitive electronics retailing space. Like the Amazon, last week launched its first smartphone Fire Phone becoming the first e-commerce website to compete in the over $1500 billion global market, led by players like Apple and Samsung.
Flipkart’s move to launch a tablet is also expected to help e-commerce firm connect faster with its customers, like Amazon had its Kindle range e-Book readers.
Speaking about similarity between Flipkart and Amazon, shares its annual subscription service for its customers, Flipkart First, which is similar to Amazon Prime premium subscription service in the US, which is aimed at rewarding registered shoppers, which it claims about 18 million for the portal. And also getting the new ones on board.
Amazon fired with its Firefly featured Fire Phone, FlipKart’s tablet is expected to be integrated with features that will enable users to complete transactions with the firm that sells anything, everything from apparel to household appliances to stationary, within minutes.
