Windows 8.1 Update 1 Goes Live, Here’s How To Download And Install It

Microsoft at its BUILD developers conference unveiled Windows 8.1 Update 1, packing in a slew of latest changes and adding new features to entice Windows users to upgrade to its newest operating system. Designed the latest with the desktop user in mind, the release offers a bunch of optimization innards for those using the traditional keyboard-and-mouse set-up. Updated edition of Windows 8.1 is now available to download.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is all about the desktop experience, restoring some core Windows 7 functionality, and making it easier for mouse and keyboard users. Most importantly, this update’s plus is that Modern, previously known as Metro, apps can now be pinned to the Taskbar. Although, Microsoft has already pinned the Window Store to the taskbar by default, and which can also be removed if user wish.

Changes made in the Update of Windows 8.1, includes, access to context menus in the Modern Start screen, and the return of the red X button for Modern apps. While, the most called-for features, including the traditional Start Menu and windowed Modern apps have been stored for future update.

How to Get the Update

Wishing to update your computer and take full advantage of the newly-introduced tweaks and performance enhancements, then follow these steps.

Step 1: First, install Windows 8.1, which is available from Windows Store.

Step 2: Open up the Charms bar (found on rightmost side of the ser interface, or press the Start+C button combinations) on your keyboard.

Step 3: From there, you’ll want to navigate through Settings > Change PC Settings > Update and recovery.

Step 4: On the Update and recovery page, hit “Check now,” which will prompt your machine to go ahead and look for the new Windows 8.1 Update.

Step 5: Update found? All you need is to do is hit Install Updates and you are good to continue. Note – while the update progress, you’ll need to keep checking back at regular intervals.
