The CyanogenMod team has announced on a twitter that they had started working on CyanogenMod 9, which will be based on Android 4.0, and may take two months to get it ready for release.
Actually, the team behind the most popular Custom Android ROMs, CyanogenMod have announced that there is a new version in the works, which is based on the latest version of Android (4.0) Ice Cream Sandwich, and will be called as CyanogenMod 9.
But why the team over at CyanogenMod to release the CM9, while every one waiting for CyanogenMod 8? Well! the the reason, CM8 was to be built off of Android 3.x Honeycomb. Until very recently the ASOP code that CyanogenMod developers rely on wasn’t available. Even though it is now, Ice Cream Sandwich has Honeycomb’s internals plus all the additional upgrades with Android 4.0. It doesn’t make any sense to waste time developing an outdated OS.
That would mean that we can expect CynogenMod 9 to be launched some time in January, and also supported by all the large and wide range of Android devices, like the existing Cyanogen version does. If it comes, then we can Install CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4.0) on the HP TouchPad? may be or may not be!
