Although the majority of Facebook users access the social media site via mobile devices, but if you still check your feed primarily through the PC or on a Mac, the Current for Facebook app can help you a lot in improved experience. However, I am not a Mac user, though, grabbing this Current app from the Mac App Store will deliver added functionality that you don’t get from accessing Facebook from a browser. It’s a bet, try it!
How it works? Current actually places a premium on accessing your Facebook messages and notifications. With an icon placed in the menu bar, lets you access your messages inbox, see notifications and which of your friends are online. Once clicked on message header from your inbox, the message conversation opens in its own pop-out window, and you can have multiple message windows open at once.
You can also open a larger window of your News Feed, which isn’t obvious anymore. You will need to click on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of Current’s drop-down window from the menu bar and then select New Window (or press Command-N) shortcut.
Current’s window for accessing Facebook proper supports multiple tabs – like, comments, share, which is highly convenient if you manage multiple pages in addition to your own profile. Bonus here is that, photos and videos can be expanded out of the News Feed and into their own floating windows. And when you expand a photo into its own window, you can browse the rest of the photographs in its album using your arrow keys. Clever!
In the Current app’s preferences, you can select where you’d like notifications for new messages, Facebook notifications, and FB friends requests to appear, yes, of course in the dock, menu bar, and notification center. Apparently, you can now switch the default browser behavior of opening links as a new tab in the Current window to your browser.
If you are a frequent Facebook user visiting during the day from a Mac, and especially if you and your friends use Facebook Messenger to communicate, then the Current for Facebook is worthy enough.
