You were one of them who were enthusiastically awaiting the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, then you had that on December 27th of past years date and you already made it with your device as soon as that tool was released by the development team, i mean by the pod2g. While everything was quite perfect at first, chances are that if you attempted to launch iBooks, or various other applications thats where you have faced some crashes as well.
These crash experience by iBooks application isn’t the newer one, Apple had implemented this built into the application bundle in an attempt to patch jailbreaking. However for the jailbreaking community, has already discovered a new way and created which is relatively painless to overcome.
iBooksFix 2 is a new tweak is available through Cydia repository which is reported to resolve the issue. There are other alternative methods, allowing users to fix the problem manually by installing .deb file to add an external repo such as the Xselize. Which had been reported to cause issues with the device syncing with iTunes, so obviously not an ideal solution and didn’t work for majority of people.
Pod2g just announced that @xvolks has patched the kernel in the Corona jailbreak to make iBooks work properly.
Developer Xvolks had also released a tool called xBooks which fixes the issue and was specifically created for use after the Corona untether jailbreak. Since, the xBooks ‘tweak’ never made it onto an official Cydia repository for download due to repositories rejecting it for being a stop gap solution, favoring to wait on the untether authors to provide an actual full time and reliable solution. While the xBooks tweak is considered a brutal hack due to the fact that involves the actual location of the iBooks applications rather than fixes the problem.
Now with the pod2g who works with Chronic Dev Team, iPhone Dev Team, PlanetBeing and Saurik to produce the A5 jailbreak that we are seeing is a community mixed effort that we have not even used it before. Xvolks is also a team member working with pod2g to resolve the iBooks situation.
According to iPhone hacker Pod2G, who has recently updated his blog, a Sandbox patch will be integrated into Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether that will fix the iBooks crashing error and other software errors related to Sandbox issues for good.
Recent blog posts from the two developers have confirmed that they have managed to patch the kernel in Corona to make iBooks work without the need for xBooks.
Corona iBooks fixes
@xvolks worked to include @comex sandbox patches into the Corona GIT.
Expect a Corona update soon in Cydia that’ll fix iBooks and other softwares having sandbox issues.
I’ll update the blog when this is released.
If you have been benefiting from the new xBooks solution, you will need to totally remove the package from your idevice, then remove and reinstall iBooks from the App Store.
