The new Feature Pack 1 update has been released over-the-air (OTA) and includes new features including homescreen widgets, improvements to the notification bar, an updated version of the browser (8.2), an improved multi-tasking view, Dolby Digital Plus functionality, and increases the speed of the processor from 1.0 to 1.3GHz.

Once installed this software update, it will seamlessly increase the clock speed of the Nokia device processor by 30 percent from 1GHz to 1.3GHz.

This Firmware update FP1 also fixes Flash video performance issues experienced under Belle OS. If you have any doubts and ask questions to get answers, please head over to this website. All About Symbian reports that the 808 PureView will come with FP1 pre-installed, but unfortunately first generation Symbian^3 devices like the Nokia N8 will not be updated, although may get some features in a separate firmware push.

Have you heard about the nano-SIM cards? Not yet! you have to look at what Apple, Nokia and RIM proposal for the said SIM cards. The Verge got a hold of the proposals from each company and notes that new card must support eight electrical contacts. This is what Apple and Nokia want to put in your next phone. Details after this jump!

Actually, Apple maintains same olde configuration, in other words, with an adapter, you can manually use their nano-SIM in Micro-SIM or mini-SIM phone sold today. But, both Nokia and the RIM took a different way. Approaching, the 4FF proposals from Apple’s competitors look more like microSD cards than present-day SIMs, which would presumably make it difficult or impossible to use an adapter to get them working with older phones.

Recently, Nokia confirmed that they wouldn’t need this proposal, unlike Apple’s, wouldn’t require any tray. The Symbian company also argues that Apple’s design could get stuck in a micro-SIM slot violating the following requirement for the standard:

The design of the fourth UICC form factor shall prevent the 4FF from becoming jammed in a Mini-UICC reader. An example is that if the 4FF is turned 90 degrees and it fits perfectly into the Mini-UICC reader (4FF length = Mini-UICC width).

While, Apple suggests that the nano-SIM should effectively be a micro-SIM stripped of virtually all its plastic. Nokia contends that Apple’s design violates that requirement, take a look at that:

“its nano-SIM is roughly 12mm long while the existing micro-SIM is 12mm wide, giving users the opportunity to jam a nano-SIM sideways into a micro-SIM slot and get it hopelessly stuck. It’s a scenario that the ETSI’s documentation specifically calls out.”

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute will make a decision on the standard at the Smart Card Platform Plenary meeting later this week. Apple has committed to grant royalty-free licenses if its nano-SIM standard is adopted.

It is unclear whether the consortium is proposing Nokia’s or RIM’s original design, though it’s a safe bet that Nokia threw its weight around in this relationship.

A MeeGo based Nokia N9 smartphone to be soon to be ported with the Android OS – 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update, which is the latest Google’s mobile operating system as for now. An independent developer forum, NIT Droid has tried and launched the Alpha version of the Project Mayhem. This project aims to bring the Android ICS operating system to Nokia N9.

now developer Steve Troughton Smith has ported Android Ice Cream Sandwich to the handset and it can be dual booted with Meego OS and Android 4.0 ICS. Actually this news surfaced weeks ago, when the devs released the screenshots of 4.0 ICS running on Nokia N9, today, the forums officially announced the release of the update with some instructions on how to port Android 4.0.3 ICS on N9 Smartphones as well.

The video below shows Android 4.0.3 running on the Nokia N9, and switching between the two platforms can be done easily by holding the volume up key whilst rebooting the device.

About Nokia N9, which is a MeeGo based handset one of most popular device across the world. Now with the NIT Droid‘s program on N9 seems promising, if all the Nokia smartphone users get the complete Android Ice Cream Sandwich functionality, then the handset would get the dual booting option.

However, Nokia N9 comes without any buttons at the front. It has a 3.9 inch AMOLED display with 854 x 480 pixel resolution. It has a scratch resistant Gorilla Glass technology.

Currently the port for ICS fro the Nokia N9 is alpha, all the essential functions of the phone are working, including calls, texts, data, WiFi, Bluetooth, et cetera. Sound and video are multi-touch, 3D drivers and more, but the only real features that seem to be missing are the camera and automatic rotation.

The best part is that this ROM can be installed with a custom boot partition, preserving the original MeeGo OS in a fashion similar to the Android ports on the HP TouchPad.

To grab some information, please feel free to visit this link here to put Android on the MeeGo-powered N9 has come up with a new 4.0.3 alpha release, allowing owners to boot between the official OS and an unofficial injection of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Nokia the Symbian/Belle manufacturer has just announced their free navigation Maps services is now compatible with Android devices and iOS devices, however the service is not available as a native application for both Nokia Maps on Android and iOS, but can be accessed via your mobile devices web browser.

The launch of an iOS and Android-compatible version of Nokia’s mapping service known as Nokia Maps, the service which powers Nokia’s native mapping applications on its own devices, that haven’t launched arrived as a native iOS and Android app yet, however, with a HTML5-based web service now available at m.maps.nokia.com, so that you can access Nokia Maps via mobiles web browser.

Simply by pointing your mobile browser to the said link, the Nokia Maps service can be used on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch or on Android handsets and the free navigation service serves you with directions on screen as well as audio direction. In addition to basic mapping, Nokia Maps provides navigation support, through separate sets of directions for those who are driving, walking or taking public transport.

While the multiple map viewing is also available in the online service, which includes a default map view showing streets and lebels, a satellite view, a public transportation view and even a live traffic view, which can help you better plan your route. Its not all, every application or hardware has good things as well as some bad ones.

This also has drawbacks, and what are they? When you’re using a a web-based application over a native one for starters, the app needs your permission to access your location in order to provide you with directions – unlike the native apps, this will not remember your response to its prompt the next time you go to use the application.

The Nokia Maps also providing audio directions, for that you have to wait while it downloads a 2 MB audio file to your iOS or Android device. While the mobile web apps are limited in terms of the background processing they can do, which could impact your ability to multitask during navigation.

The new web app works on iPhone, iPad or Android (2.3+) device, and is accessible from m.maps.nokia.com. You can find out more information about Nokia’s free mapping service for Android and Apple’s iOS over at the Nokia Blog.

With the cutting edge of technology, Nokia is well considered to be producers of mobile phones. Symbian OS was once the most wanted platform for serveral smartphone manufacturers. After Apple and Android came into the seen, Nokia dropped its value, but not that much as you think. Nokia introduced N8 with a 12-Megapixel camera, the first smartphone that no other have built. The Finnish company were at the forefront of the smartphone boom and were once the world’s largest vendors of smartphones, an accolade which seems a million miles away now. As said, Nokia smartphones were historically shipped with the Symbian operating system, and with the emergence of Apple’s iOS and the Google Android operating systems. Well needed a partner within Nokia if they were to even attempt to get back to former glories.

Microsoft has put its hands on the Nokia and the change came just over twelve months ago with the announcement of a partnership, meaning that going fowrard, Nokia smartphones would only adopt the Windows Phone platform in the hope of Microsoft’s software and Nokia hardware to apparently become rival Apple and Google. But Nokia recently took a baby step on the road to recovery after it was announced recently that were the largest vendors of Windows Phone handsets in Q4 of 2011.

Today we are getting the news that Nokia are once again in the smartphone business with the confirmation that they are about to luanch a new device, the Nokia 808 PureView, which will be integrated with a powerful 41-megapixel camera which is built upon the company’s pixel oversampling technology.

The PureView 808 will take over from the Nokia N8 smartphone and will be running the Symbian operating system, not confirmed, and expected by the experts are predicting that this could be the last release from Nokia which is built upon the soon to be faded-out OS, with the company shipping Windows Phone devices.

If the above said becomes true, then there’s a way to go with a camera capable of talking 41-megapixel photographs and brings Sattelite imaging to a smartphone soon.

The Nokia’s PureView smartphone has been unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Conference which is taking place in Barcelona and however showcased on a Symbian powered device, Nokia have confirmed that it does plan to bring the exact new technology to the new range of phones which will indeed run Windows Phone OS.

Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President of smart devices at Nokia has stated:

“We’ve been working on this technology for some time, with the intention to mature and commercialise it to take it across our portfolio. We wanted to make the Pureview 808 recognisable as the best smartphone camera device in the world, and our design team have done a great job accomplishing that.”
