This is what Droiders are waiting for has finally arrived! Google has officially announced the next release of Android 5.0 Lollipop – the latest version of the world’s most popular mobile OS. Google took the wraps off their latest operating system with their newly launched, Nexus 6 smartphone, Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus Player streaming device.
Notably, those holding the Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10 and Google Play Edition devices will be receiving the latest Android 5.0 L in the coming weeks. As Android 5.0 Lollipop SDK reportedly to be available starting on October 17th.
Google has finally ironed out all the quirks it gathered during this testing phase, which the OS had been in the developer preview limitations for quite some time now. Android L as it was called till a few weeks back, geatures Google’s new Material Design language, which apparently offers some of the best visual enhancements.
The day when it rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop, also introduced the world with two new Nexus smartphone and tablet, the Motorola-made Nexus 6 and the HTC’s Nexus 9. Forgot to say about the Nexus Player, all the three device will be the first ones to run the latest Android 5.0 on it. Lollipop is the name!
The new Material Design offers a cleaner design with flatter icons, a bolder color pellete, paired with fluid physics-based animations offering a smoother and more consistent user experience on the Android platform, well as apps though. Don’t need to run Android L Developer Preview to check out the Material Design, however, it now does offer the most accurate design changes. Google by pushing out the Material Design update for its Google+ app, just followed by an upgrade to the Play Store as well, users were able to peek into the Material world.
One thing is clear that, Google’s attempted to use Material Design only to unify the Android experience across all devices, which something started with the introduction of Android 3.0 Honnycomb, remind you that.
Although, Android 5.0 Lollipop is not just a chocolate candy, but sports some major changes under the hood indeed. The Android OS is the first version of the mobile OS which has been optimized for 64-bit architecture. It allow hardware manufacturers to jump onto the 64-bit Android smartphones and tablets bandwagon.
Google says that
content responds to your touch, or even your voice, in more intuitive ways, and transitions between tasks are more fluid”.
The new OS from Google Android also comes with a new lock screen with Notifications that allow user to take actions on them; such as deleting emails. A new battery save mode will give you 90 minutes of extra time between charges. Plenty more still hidden which looks like Google wants to make these needed implementations part of the core Android joy.
Note: Andorid 5.0 gives user more control over notifications by allowing them to limit them in certain instances. Nevertheless, Lollipop is that it gets a new battery saver feature that extends the life of your device by up to 90 minutes. It includes a Smart Lock feature that enables users designate trusted devices like a Bluetooth earpiece or a Android Wear smartwatch, in order to keep Nexus device unlocked when it present.
Compared to Android 4.0, version 5.0 Lollipop – it is easily Google’s most accurate visual update along with the new UI database changes. Google, in fact needs to showcase the Android OS as a software that can look beyond just the phone and tablet platforms.
Confirmed! In addition to the preview images, the final Android 5.0 SDK can be downloaded via SDK manager. Google notes that the new Lollipop mobile OS will bring over 5,000 new APIs for developers for testing.
