Ultrabooks are actually of a new breed, with Apple’s MacBook Air their forefather. While we already having notebooks for few years now, which were cheaper machines that were only there to fill a purpose until the tablets came along.
When you notice all the ultrabooks look very similar to the MacBook Air, at the first blush, the Aspire S5 more than looks like original Air, if only because that ‘thicker at one edge, thinner at the other’ approach is universally agreed to be the best way to make a thin notebook. Remember folks, great artists steal, apparently. The Aspire S5 is one of the rare breed of devices to sport a new Thunderbolt port and also packs with Apple logo similar to the MacBook Air. Of course the first device as well.
When talking about specifications, it weighs a reasonable 1.35 kg (that’s less than 3 lbs). Acer describes as a “delicately curved chassis”, comes in “onyx black,” in case you’re wondering – and a sturdy magnesium-aluminium alloy cover. At a 13-inch screen with a resolution of 1366×768 and a device that weighs less than 3 pounds. The Aspire S5 comes in at just 15mm, which is thin and just slim. So far we know that the S5 will feature an Intel Core processor, SSD storage, Dolby Home Theater v4 technology, and a PowerSmart battery pack. There’s also a “magical I/O port panel” which is concealed just below the device’s hinge — a touch of a button opens this panel and reveals HDMI, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt ports.
With the Acer Green Instant On and Acer Always Connect technology, Aspire S5 is built with, means that it should boot (and resume) quickly while making managing data a breeze.
While this will be the first to be unveiled in the Ultrabook announcements over the next few days. If you look for a small, light nootbooks that’s not Apple MacBook Air, then you can get more from the CES this week. The Acer Aspire S5 will start shipping in the second quarter of 2012.
